Italy: Food & Wine Experiences

Our clients favorite destination this year is Italy, and this delightful country just happens to be a fantastic place to sample great food and wine. Visiting vineyards and wineries is a popular pastime in Italy, a good way to meet the locals, as well as to find out more about winemaking. Sometimes we go with our local wine expert/wholesaler and taste our way around the country. This works great even from a cruise ship, as we did on the Seabourn Spirit one year. And the owners and managers of vineyards know where to get the best food! They may even offer to make you a reservation!

We have dined like kings after tasting wines as sweet as "nectar from the gods" and always leave a winery with interesting memories of people and their wines. You will never have a bad meal in Italy and you can have wine that is superb. Try a Brunello, or another Super Tuscan wine from Montepulciano or Montalcino; order Santa Margarita Pino Grigio for lunch or with fish; my own favorite from winery visits is Historica and cannot be bought in the US; ask for vin santo after your meal for a fabulous treat; lemoncello has its followers in the south; or just a Chianti house wine can be lovely. And cooking school can be great fun, too! This is available all over Italy and is another experience where you can be one on one with the locals.

Italy is full of wonderful places. There are more art treasures to be found there than in the rest of the world put together. I have vacationed throughout Italy over and over again, sometimes several times in one year. I have been to Carnevale in Venice, to the Palio in Siena, to the Spoleto Festivale of Music, and explored the medieval towns of San Gimgnano, Padua, Verona, Rome, Taormina, Syracusa, Messina, Erich, Lake Como, Bellagio, Milano, Bergamo, Vetri, Positano, Sorrento, Naples, Genoa, Cortona, Urbino, Montalcino, Montepulchiano, Chianti, Florence, Cremona, Ferrari, Volterra, Pienza, and many others. I have explored vineyards, wineries; attended concerts, operas, theatre; visited countless museums, churches, archaelogical sites, Etruscan ruins, classical ruins, Roman ruins, Pompeii, Paestum, and more. I am an expert at shopping, fine Italian dining, and Italian wines.
