Berlin, Germany, is an amazing journey through time, culture, incredible collections of antiquities, and architectural anomalies. In one miniature city, you can travel from ancient times through the fabulous museum collections of Egypt and Persia to the newest museums depicting the persecution of the Jewish people during World War II.
The beautiful new architecture is interspersed with the traditional buildings, serving as a reminder of the trauma suffered by this place while Hitler and his Third Reich carried out their cleansing pogroms, and the aftermath of bombing that occurred. The richness of the art and artifacts mixed with the stark reality of the Jewish monuments indeed makes for a most memorable feast for the mind.
You can go there enroute to your Northern Europe cruise. Or as a contrast to a Mediterranean or Aegean trip.
