Blackberry Farm is located in the mountains of Tennessee and is the ultimate relaxation vacation. It's a bit hard to describe as it is unlike anywhere else I have traveled. It is part elegance, part farm, part mountains, part luxury, part cabin, part lake, and part comfort - but don't let me mislead you. Everything, and I mean everything, is 5-star all the way. From cabin names that are aligned with nature to a fully stocked cabinet of gourmet treats to mini flat screens in the bathroom to farm-raised eggs for breakfast -- every last inch of detail is perfect.
With a focus on fresh foods and taking you back to nature, daily activities include fly-fishing, horseback riding, nature hikes (where you may see a bear), and a vegetable and flower garden that are just divine and inspirational. Of course there is also swimming, tennis, and a full spa too...and visits to the cheese room, beef aging area, and the dairy farm. Wow! The options are endless and you will appreciate a golf cart to really take-in and explore the entire property.
There are several places to dine at Blackberry Farm, but my favorite was the barn. It has a rustic elegance to it, and you continue to feel the comfort and warmth of home but with exceptional service and palatial dishes that remind you that you are not. Blackberry Farm regularly brings in specialty chefs and wine vinters for culinary programs, and their wine list and cave will impress even the most sophisticated wine connoisseur. They have quite a stage for cooking demonstrations, including the one we witnessed by Chef Mike Latta of FIG (Food is Good) in Charleston, SC. He was joined by Ted & Heidi Lemon of Littorai Wines and it was the perfect pairing for an event that allowed the guests to learn more, dine under the oak trees, and sample some of the finest food and wine in the country.
