Located in the Caribbean, Anguilla is an island that has a small-island feel but is actually a good size. You can arrive by plane or by sea to one of two customs offices located on the island. Renting a car is the best way to get around the island, and it takes about an hour to drive from one side of the island to the other. There are many deluxe accommodations in Anguilla that have won many awards and been recognized by the best of the travel publications, and the food is unparalleled to any other island in the Caribbean. With Blanchards, Dune, Cuisinart, Cap Juluca, Mangos, and Straw Hat, there are simply too many options to choose from within a week.

The water in Anguilla is clear and the beaches have white sand without any crowding. It's a great place to play Bocce ball or to snorkel around the numerous coral reefs. Around Memorial Day, locals celebrate Anguilla Day with a boat race around the island (see the corresponding photo album). Anguilla Day starts early and houses empty to watch the race. The race ends on the beach in the middle of the town with one team winning the title for the year and everyone celebrating with a big beach barbecue.

If you are looking to try a new place in the Caribbean and like to relax and eat gourmet food, consider Anguilla. It's not the island for shopping or for sightseeing, but it is the perfect spot for those wanting clear waters, warm year-round weather, friendly people, and few tourists. It has an upscale edge but with a very local feel. It's just right for a group of friends to gather or a destination as intimate and private as a honeymoon…and it's fairly accessible from the East Coast too.
