Pyramids & Petra...an A & K adventure!

Traveling to Egypt and Jordan was a lifelong dream! Our adventure began when we arrived in Cairo & met our group's very own Egyptologist. We knew on our first day's visits to the world famous Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, the Alabaster Mosque, and the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar how important it is to have a highly qualified & educated Egyptologist with us.
From Cairo, we traveled to Memphis to see the Alabaster Sphinx and the ancient Step Pyramid & enjoyed a camel ride! Then we boarded a flight to Abu Simbel, site of the magnificent temple of Ramses II. Next came our three night cruise on the "Sun Boat IV"! What an experience... cruising down (or was it up?) the Nile River on this comfortable riverboat. We visited several sites, including the Valley of the Kings & Queens to see Tut's tomb and the Temple of Luxor. The Egyptian leg of our tour ended back in Cairo at the Four Seasons Hotel with a lovely farewell dinner.
Flying to Amman, Jordan the next day, we were all set for new adventures in a very interesting country. Jordan has many Christian, Jewish and Islam historical sites.... there is even an American queen in Jordan's recent history. Our first day featured a trip to the Dead Sea.... we lunched at a lovely hotel there and then spent the afternoon swimming or trying to swim in the salt water of the Dead Sea. The next day we began our tour with a drive to Petra with our educated and gracious guide. On the way, we made stops in Madaba, the "City of Mosaics" and Mount Nebo, where Moses is buried. But one of our favorite stops was in Wadi Rum... the rosy desert area made famous by the "Laurence of Arabia" movie. We walked in the fine sand and visited a bedouin camp for tea. Nothing prepared us for PETRA... the ancient city built in the rose red stone walls! Experiencing the beauty of Petra will always be one of my most treasured travel moments. After 2 nights in Petra, we returned to Amman & explored that lovely city to learn more of Jordan's history.
