Jordan is a seldom-visited country, but it has much to offer.

Petra is perhaps the most well-known destination within Jordan, and many have seen the adventures of Indiana Jones filmed there. But Petra can give you many thrills without the cameras rolling or Harrison Ford and Sean Connery jumping off the mountaintops. The approach is by a narrow path through high cliffs. Suddenly, you round a bend and are instantly thrust into a valley filled with sunlight, and a cathedral-like structure carved into the face of the sheer rock before you. It is startling, to say the least! But even more dramatic, is when you follow this tapered walkway at night, lit by luminaries at intervals along the path, with the clearest sky you have ever seen, and zillions of stars twinkling overhead, and then burst into the open valley where there are hundreds of candles glowing to welcome you! Awesome!!

And then there was the shiek’s open fire tented dinner in the desert.

And the DEAD SEA SCROLLS!!

Mount Nebo, with a clear view of the Dead Sea, Jerusulem, and Bethlehem.

The mosaic map at Madaba.

And the Crusader Castle Kerak, built in 1142.

All this, plus Amman, a very interesting city.
